Scooping Up A New Classic – Introducing Graeter’s Black Cherry Chocolate Chip White Stout

After three years of partnering with Graeter’s Ice Cream, with styles ranging from stouts to sours, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re releasing a brand new creation in 2020! Joining forces once again with Cincinnati’s favorite ice cream family, this collaboration is about to get a unique, chocolate-covered twist.

Introducing Graeter’s Black Cherry Chocolate Chip White Stout. A decadent dessert beer crafted in perfect harmony with notes of luscious black cherries and creamy dark chocolate. An indulgent, medium-bodied white stout, delightfully reminiscent of the classic chocolate covered cherry.

On Friday, February 28th, we’re releasing this handcrafted creation with our friends at Graeter’s in the Taproom! Utilizing a special beer style, new, premium ingredients, and a new can size, the Black Cherry Chocolate Chip White Stout is a succulent addition to the impressive lineup of Graeter’s beers over the past three years.

2020 is a year full of fresh changes to our Graeter’s collaboration. Below we answered some of the most common questions below about this new release, our partnership, and where you can get your hands on this delectable creation.

What does the Black Cherry Chocolate Chip White Stout taste like?

Featuring flavors of sweet cherry, rich chocolate and forgoing the dark roasted malts of the typical stout, we’ve created a uniquely delicious dessert beer inspired by a Graeter’s favorite – Black Cherry Chocolate Chip

We added 6,000 pounds of cherry puree to this delightful treat before it was conditioned on cacao nibs, resulting in a beautifully crafted 7.4% ABV and 30 IBU white stout. In the end, the beer we created is inspired and clearly reminiscent of the classic sweet treat, a chocolate covered cherry.

What exactly is a white stout?

Normally, a stout’s flavor, aroma, and color are derived from the judicious use of several varieties of dark roasted malts. A white stout is crafted by omitting those dark, roasted malts and replacing them with cocoa nibs and coffee beans to bring forward the strong aroma and flavors that stouts are known for. The main difference is the color of a white stout – they tend to have a deep straw to gold color.

In the case of Graeter’s Black Cherry Chocolate Chip White Stout, a heavy handed addition of sweet cherry puree is added directly to the fermenter creating a beautiful mahogany / cherry red color. In the end, this ice cream classic turned beer is a stout that brings forward heavy notes of cherry and chocolate with light notes of roast and coffee for the perfect balance.

“We decided on a white stout because the style lends itself to those premium ingredients we wanted to use in collaboration with Graeter’s” said Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer Evan Rouse. “The beer itself is a new step in what we’re able to create with dessert beers when it comes to our partnership with the legendary ice cream family.”

Why did Braxton change to 16oz cans?

We’ve enjoyed three amazing years of handcrafted creations with our friends at Graeter’s Ice Cream. After producing some old favorites and a new summertime treat last year, we knew that we wanted to go big in 2020 with premium, one-of-a-kind flavors in a larger package that provides our fans even more of this amazing product.

The focus this year is bigger and bolder styles while honing in on those ice cream flavors that have made Graeter’s the cornerstone brand that we are honored to call partners. As we continue to move throughout the year, you’ll see that this collaboration has evolved to highlight our specialties at Braxton, while keeping true to the foundation of this partnership – two family businesses building high quality, hand-crafted creations.
