Meet the Scientist: Jared Sturgill

It’s a grown up science fair…a BEER Science Fair! Braxton Labs is our space dedicated to innovation and experimentation. That’s what we’ll be doing at our Beer Science Fair on Saturday, September 30th.

Our brewing team (eight strong) plus seven guest breweries have conducted experiments and we need your help judging them!

Beginning at noon, we’re turning the beer garden into a Beer Science Fair at Braxton Labs. You can get a single taster for $3 or 10 tasters for $25. You’ll get to vote for your favorite Braxton beer and we’ll announce the winner at the end of the day. But unlike those boring science fairs of your younger years, we’ll have live music, local food, lots of beer and more. Below, meet Jared and learn about his experiment:

Q: What’s your role at Braxton?

I’m a Packaging Specialist at Braxton.

Q: Briefly describe your beer/firkin?

It is Pink Lemonade Revamp. Fresh squeezed lemon juice and zest for flavor/pucker and fresh strawberry puree to balance the acidic finish.

Q: What inspired your firkin?

I love Fresh lemonade in the summer and early autumn. So I chose Revamp to add lemonade too. Hoping to enhance the citrus notes. And then strawberries to tone down the acidity in the finish and smooth it out.

Q: What’s your favorite Braxton beer and Braxton Labs beers and why?

From Braxton, it’s Oktober Fuel Oktoberfest Lager. It has great balance just leaning towards malty sweetness.

From Braxton Labs, it’s West Coast IPA. The team really nailed the bitterness without it being over the top and too dry.

Q: Why do you think you will win?

What better way to end the summer season than with that last glass of fresh squeezed lemonade annnnddd … BEER!
