Meet the Scientist: Conan Crofoot

It’s a grown up science fair…a BEER Science Fair! Braxton Labs is our space dedicated to innovation and experimentation. That’s what we’ll be doing at our Beer Science Fair on Saturday, September 30th.


Our brewing team (eight strong) plus seven guest breweries have conducted experiments and we need your help judging them!

Beginning at noon, we’re turning the beer garden into a Beer Science Fair at Braxton Labs. You can get a single taster for $3 or 10 tasters for $25. You’ll get to vote for your favorite Braxton beer and we’ll announce the winner at the end of the day. But unlike those boring science fairs of your younger years, we’ll have live music, local food, lots of beer and more. Below, meet Conan and learn about his experiment:

Q: What’s your role at Braxton? 

Brewer, Lead Cellarman and Barrel Manager

Q: Briefly describe your beer/firkin? 

Ginger Bread Snow Shovel. This is our winter warmer brewed with ginger, cinnamon and local honey. I’m also infusing it with Braxton Labs Cinnamon Brown Ale, Vanilla bean, nutmeg, and naturally carbonating the beer.  The glass will be rimmed in colored sugar and brown sugar

Q: What inspired your firkin?

I’ve been trying to find a way to use this base beer and who doesn’t love ginger bread cookies?!

Q: What’s your favorite Braxton beer and Braxton Labs beers and why? 

From our Covington location, it’s Oktober Fuel. Fall is my favorite season and it’s the perfect beer for the perfect time of year.

From Braxton Labs, it’s the Coffee Vanilla Milk Stout. I love the combination of flavors and Zac did a really good job.

Q: Why do you think you will win? 

It’s different from a lot of the options and it tastes like the holiday season.  It will transport you to a time and place where there should be really happy thoughts. Rimming the glass is the perfect touch to carry it over the top!
